A George I Brass Socket Candlestick
The upward flared flange (or bobeche), sits atop of a strong and elegant stem, of typical seamed construction.
The stepped and raised foot is of the “cut corner” design, with a dished centre. Unusually, this candlestick has ownership initials engraved to the underside of the base – ‘B H’. The style of the engraving is very much of the period, suggesting these were the initials of the original owner.
English, circa 1720
7 ½ inches
